Tottenham Hotspur Women announced on Wednesday that Ian Willcock had joined the first team staff. He is the goalkeeping coach, replacing Chris Williams.
A UEFA A License goalkeeping coach, Williams arrives at Hotspur Way from the Canada Women’s National Team. He previously worked in men’s football, before joining Man Utd Women ahead of their promotion to the WSL. There he worked with current Spurs boss Martin Ho and his assistant Lawrence Shamieh.
Tottenham Hotspur Women announced on Thursday that they will take part in the inaugural World Sevens Football London competition. I’m excited about the tournament. Firstly, it is a great way to do something different with women’s football. Secondly, I think Martin Ho’s side have a good chance of winning.
Roberto de Zerbi is here. He led Spurs in defeat against Sunderland on Sunday. Now he is set to take on his former club Brighton in his first home game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium tomorrow .
I raised my concerns about this appointment prior to it being confirmed. Worries remain. Mason Greenwood related, football related, and personality related. I also thought that when asked in club media about it, de Zerbi handled the Greenwood issue fairly well. Not perfectly. Far from it. Kate Mason articulately explained the problems for The Athletic.

The following was written before Roberto de Zerbi was officially appointed as Tottenham Hotspur men’s first team coach. As I explain in this follow-up piece, many of the concerns still remain. However, the Italian has now answered questions on the issue in a manner that I think allows us to move forward. Original article below.
We all heard it. The audio allegedly revealing an assault by Mason Greenwood. There were also horrifying images of injuries. He denies the charges, including attempted rape and assault and they have been dropped.
A revolt at Man Utd stopped his return to the team there. The forward was then taken up by Roberto de Zerbi at Marseille. The Italian now looks set to be on his way to Tottenham Hotspur to replace Igor Tudor.
After their dramatic penalty shoot-out victory in the last round, Spurs head to Kingsmeadow to take on holders Chelsea in the FA Cup quarter-final. Given the team’s performance against the top sides, it’s hard to have much confidence. However, the Blues come into the game on the back of that Champions League defeat to Arsenal. Will it drain or inspire them come Monday lunchtime?

The problem is, it just keeps happening. Almost every time Spurs Women play one of the “big four”, they collapse. Even getting 3-0 up at Man Utd isn’t enough. Against Arsenal, Tottenham Women didn’t even get that far. Alessia Russo had netted twice before the game had really started.
An own goal by Frida Leonhardsen Maanum got the visitors back into the game. The Gunners, for a few moments, seemed slightly uncertain.
However, that didn’t last long. A disaster at the back ended with ‘keeper Lize Kop passing it straight Alessia Russo, who obviously rolled it into the net. Kop screamed with frustration, but by then it was too late.
It’s been a big week for Spurs. Olivia Holdt agreed new a long-term contract at the club, followed by Matilda Vinberg . Then, ahead of Arsenal vs Tottenham Hotspur in the WSL, manager Martin Ho did the same. Can his side round off a hugely positive few days with a historic victory?
Ho said he is “really proud to extend my time at Tottenham Hotspur,” and that “we want to be a team that plays with intensity, clarity and personality, and an environment where people are developed, supported and accountable. There has been progress, but we know there is much more to come.” The Emirates would be a could place start getting to that next level!
Another day, another deal! Matilda Vinberg has signed a new long-term contract with Tottenham Hotspur Women. Today’s announcement followed yesterday’s news that Olivia Holdt had done the same. The winger said “it feels amazing,” to have agreed the deal.
“Obviously I’m very happy here,” she added. “It was an easy decision for me to extend my contract. Ever since I started my journey here at Spurs, I’ve had great support from the staff, the players are amazing, and I think we have a good potential to become a top team in the WSL.”
