Martha Thomas Leaves Spurs, Signs For Newcastle

Martha Thomas has left Spurs. The Scottish forward has joined WSL2 side Newcastle on a permanent deal, the clubs announced on Wednesday.

Thomas said: “I’m really excited, it’s a really big club to be able to play for and I just can’t wait to get started. I want to compete and play for the best teams. Team culture is really important to me and I think I bring some good attributes on that to help the team in the dressing room and push standards on the pitch.”

The forward joined Tottenham from Man Utd in 2023. She scored 10 goals in the opening season, most famously, the goal that gave Spurs their first ever win in the North London Derby. She also netted to send Spurs to women’s FA Cup final. Other highlights include a hat-trick in the 4-2 victory over Aston Villa in October, 2023

Generally, though, Martha Thomas struggled for goals, scoring just 13 times in 66 appearances. She joined Liverpool on loan for the second half of last season. Thomas scored for the Reds on debut against London Bees and scored one other time.

In other transfer news, Spurs legend Ashleigh Neville has joined Charlton. The move reunites her with Karen Hills, the manager who signed her in 2017.
