Tottenham Hotspur Women announced on Thursday that they will take part in the inaugural World Sevens Football London competition. I’m excited about the tournament. Firstly, it is a great way to do something different with women’s football. Secondly, I think Martin Ho’s side have a good chance of winning.

Under new management, Spurs have shown they can move the ball, even if sometimes the final pass is not always on point. The dynamism offered by some in Ho’s squad should make them competitive in this small-sided format.

Key Tottenham Hotspur Players

Take, for instance, Signe Gaupset. The January arrival has had a huge impact. She looks as comfortable as many of the more established midfielders in the league. Her attacking abilities could really make a difference at World Sevens Football London. The data, provided by Twelve Football’s Earpiece tool, outline that she is a highly involved, progressive player. Just what you need in seven-a-side.

She is a very strong runner compared to most other WSL midfielders, too. Again, this is likely to be a key attribute in the competition.

There is also Olivia Holdt. Like Gaupset, she is strong carrier of the ball.

Furthermore, she has the ability to player clever passes to open up a defence. Holdt posseses a very strong shot, too. This all goes alongside the goalscoring ability of Bethany England and Cathinka Tandberg.

What is the World Sevens Football London

The World Sevens Football London will take place at Brentford FC’s Gtech Community Stadium, from 28-30 May, 2026. Eight WSL teams will take part. Games happen on a smaller natural grass pitch. They are 30-minutes long, with rolling substitutions allowed.

Commenting on Tottenham’s inclusion, the club’s Women’s Managing Director Andy Rogers, said: “We’re excited to take on a brand new challenge. The World Sevens is a fast-paced competition which can present us with new perspectives on the pitch, while also bringing the fans ever-closer to the action. As a Club that embraces flare, style and passion, we are delighted to be joining such a creative, fan-first competition this May.”

Aston Villa, Man Utd and West Ham are taking part alongside Tottenham Hotspur. It should be a really fun event, with some great skills on display. Buy tickets here.
